    Fisker Karma 2012




    Less than four years after the revealing of the debut concept car Karma, Fisker has gained ample global attraction to have a strong foothold at its initial stage of production. Infact, Hollywood superstar Leonardo Dicaprio will receive the first Karma. The reason for the plug-in hybrid concept to gather such reputation lies in its stylish and luxurious body finish which was designed by Henrik Fisker who has finished formal design studies. Henrik fisker is well known for his extreme car designing which includes V-8 Vantage, BMW Z8 and Aston martin DB9. Currently, the car is built under contract by builder Valmet in Finland even though it is designed and developed in California.


    The car gets a low slung body and curvaceous flanks which optimizes its exterior looks. But the low slung body comes off with a loss certain features like limited visibility, low front overhang and a small storage space, yet this seems to be the most attractive feature of Karma. The front gets a decent grill work with vertical slits and divided into two at the center. The headlight unit fits majestically at the front suiting its appearance from the front. The Karma’s aluminium skin is finished with a standard roof mounted solar panel which not only gathers energy to enhance battery capacity but also exhibits futuristic looks. The rear comes with a composite decklid, plastic bumper and exotic rear lamps. 22-inch alloy wheels with goodyear F1 supercar tires rolls the Karma on the road.


    The compact Karma easily accommodates four grown-ups with a best in class internal ambience. The EcoChic interior option provides animal free interior, finished with high end textiles and faux suede. Small glass panels are included in doors and center console giving it fine detailing. Rescued california wildfire hardwood also features the interior giving a luxurious and custom touch. The usual infotainment buttons for various entertainment functions are replaced and consolidated into a 10.2-inch screen with easy to access menus. The transmission control is through four center console buttons for drive, neutral, reverse and park. The dashboard seems rather so simple and elegant and the steering gets audio control buttons.

    Under the hood of the car lies a 2.0 liter four cylinder gasoline engine of 260Hp power output, supplied by the General Motors. It in turn drives a mighty generator with a capacity of 175kW. Twin AC Motors near the rear axle delivers a power 402Hp to the differential. The car has healthy sprint time of 5.9 seconds from 0-60 mph. Karma has two drive modes-stealth and sport modes. The stealth mode allows you to drive completely on electric power which is ample for normal driving. Karmas full potential is experienced when the sport mode is engaged which starts up gasoline engine and provides further grunt. The stealth mode which uses full electric power is good for 50 miles and when sport mode is engaged the mileage is expected to be around 20-30mpg.

    Brakes are provided which can convert excess momemtum to charge the battery and aluminium suspension components are provided to absorb the shocks effectively. Karma gets a robust chassis with good road feel steering and effective linear turn-in response. Karma on the whole endorses a new design language with reduced consumption and eco-friendliness. These attributes would help the company attain a good status in the automobile industry.
